At SA Psychology and Wellness, our neuropsychological assessments are tailored to the individual, providing clarity and practical recommendations to support independence, wellbeing, and future planning.
Changes in thinking, memory, or daily functioning can affect people at any age and arise from a range of causes, including brain injury, neurological conditions, or concerns about cognitive capacity. At SA Psychology and Wellness, our neuropsychological assessments are tailored to the individual, providing clarity and practical recommendations to support independence, wellbeing, and future planning.
Are you or a loved one noticing difficulties with memory, attention, or problem-solving? Have you experienced a head injury, stroke, or neurological condition and want to better understand your current strengths and challenges? Are you concerned about decision-making capacity, returning to work, or maintaining independence in daily life?
Our neuropsychological assessments use gold-standard methods to help you gain insight into cognitive, executive, and memory functioning, and to guide next steps for support, rehabilitation, or planning for the future.
Identify cognitive strengths and challenges and explain changes in thinking or behaviour.
Inform tailored strategies, therapy, and interventions for recovery or adaptation.
Help with planning for future care, independence, or legal capacity.
Distinguish between different causes of cognitive changes, such as injury, illness, or age-related decline.
Enable informed choices about treatment, support, and future planning.
A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of how the brain is functioning in areas such as thinking, memory, attention, planning, and decision-making. These assessments are used to identify changes or difficulties in cognitive abilities, clarify the impact of injury or illness, and support future planning and independence.
Neuropsychological assessments typically involve:
Completed before your appointment, covering medical history, developmental milestones, educational and occupational background, and current concerns.
Your psychologist will meet with you (and family, if appropriate) to discuss your history in detail, clarify challenges, and explore assessment goals.
Measures attention, memory, executive functioning (such as planning, organisation, and impulse control), language, and reasoning abilities.
Standardised questionnaires are completed by you and, where appropriate, by family members, caregivers, or other third parties. Collateral information from people who know you well—such as family, friends, employers, or healthcare providers—is often essential for understanding real-world functioning and changes over time.
The assessment process usually takes around 3 to 3.5 hours and may be completed in a single session or over multiple appointments, depending on individual needs.
You will receive a detailed written report summarising assessment outcomes, including test results, diagnostic considerations, and tailored recommendations for support, rehabilitation, or planning.
Once the report is ready, you will have a feedback session with your psychologist to discuss the findings, answer any questions, and plan next steps together.
The goal of a neuropsychological assessment is to provide a clear understanding of cognitive strengths and challenges, inform treatment or rehabilitation, and support decisions about independence, capacity, or return to work.
